What mechanical device is used to signal a catch when ice-fishing?

Depends on who is doing the fishing. A normal person would probably use a tip up. People like me would probably spend a month figuring out how to rig up something that plays music, flashes a light and sends up a signal flare.

Since it is the middle of Feb and in the 70's I think I will pass. I have heard yall mention tip ups but they dont sell em at the local stores.

A tip up?. Ain't that when you lift a metal ring and hear it go psssst, then tip it up to drink the contents? Shoot I knew that one from all the root beer I drink.

And the card says, tip-up. Seeing how it is February and they are saying it could be in the 90's next week, I doubt I will ever have the need for one.
