Wolf Creek State Park in Illinois offers a wide variety of activities. This is a wonderful place to spend the night, the weekend, or even longer with friends and the family. Camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, water skiing, fishing, boating, and wind surfing are just a few ways to enjoy your stay.

Camping

There are 304 Class A campsites with restrooms, showers, electricity, and picnic tables. 78 Class C sites are available for primitive camping. There are also 104 sites in the Lick Creek section that are used for reservations. These sites can be reserved as early as January from May - October bookings. An organized group camp, family tent camping areas, and an equestrian camp ground provide additional means of overnight stay.

Boating/Fishing

There is a four lane launching ramp for boaters off of Lake Shelbyville. Several private marinas on the lake offer boat rentals. For avid fishers the lake is abundant in black and white crappie, walleye, large mouth bass, bullhead, flathead catfish, channel catfish, bluegill, muskie, carp, and sunfish. Check with the park superintendent for size and quantity limits.

Hiking

Hikers can enjoy a long nature walk in the forest. There are seven hiking trails to choose from. During the winter venture out on a 16 1/2 mile snowmobiling trail. For those incapable of hiking there is a section of the forest that has been cleared for handicap accessibility. Common wildlife that can be enjoyed on the trails are deer, pheasant, rabbits, song birds, and wild turkey.

Horseback Riding

Go horseback riding on a scenic 15 mile equestrian trail. Guided horse backing along the lake trails is available.

Swimming

From mid May to September enjoy a developed swimming beach. There are buoyed areas for swimming as no life guards are available. Food drinks and pets are not permitted on the sand. Alcohol is not permitted on the beach past the main gate. There are picnic tables and grills available for use.

Picnicking

There are two picnic areas available for visitors with disabilities. The Lost Shelter picnic are is an isolated scenic are for reservation. There are numerous general picnic sites throughout Wolf Creek State Park. Water, grills, tables, and sanitary facilities are accessible for use.
