Introduction and Activities

The Kansas Perry State Park is one of the more interesting parks in the state of Kansas. It was created in 1968 after the Kansas Parks and Resources department signed a lease agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. You can reach it by traveling to the southwest part of Perry Reservoir. It is about 4 miles to the north of Highway 24 if you are traveling on Highway 237. When you get to the park, you can take advantage of a rich set of features and activities as well as the natural geographic landscape.

For example, there is a sand beach present at the park, at least five separate shower buildings, two ramps for boating, trails that allow people to hike, mountain bike, and ride horses, and areas for having picnics. If you are in the mood for camping, you will also be happy when you get to the Perry state park, as there are 4campgrounds with utilities set up, which means there are at least 102 sites where you can gain access to water and electricity hookups. If you are in the mood for a more rural experience, you can take advantage of one of the more than 200 sites at the 7 primitive campgrounds in the park.

Unique Features

Within the Delaware and Jefferson Point areas, visitors can take advantage of almost 50 miles of trails that allow them to bike, hike, and ride their horses. The trails for biking and hiking are located around the Delaware Area, while the trails for horseback riding are located around the Jefferson Point area. The Jefferson Point Area includes approximately 25 pure trail miles for horse riding while the Delaware Area includes 22 miles dedicated to hikers and mountain bikers.

Considerations

When planning a camping adventure at Perry state park, it is important to keep in mind that camping reservations occur on a first come, first served basis. You are not allowed to make reservations for individual sites. While you cannot make reservations for camping sites, however, you are still allowed to make reservations for cabins at the site during camping season. Cabins opened in 2010 on April 3rd and will remain open until the end of October this year. It is also possible to make cabin reservations for the year 2011, as patrons are allowed to make cabin reservations up to a full year in advance.

Rates and Accommodations

As stated above, up to 4 cabins may be reserved at Perry state park. When you use one of the cabins, you will have all of the conveniences you would be able to experience in the comfort of your own home while simultaneously having access to the great outdoors and activities in nature and on the nearby lake. One of the cabins is compliant with regulations and guidelines set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act. All four of the cabins are designed to comfortably accommodate 4 people and have the following pieces of equipment installed:

Cabin residents can take advantage of a full sized shower in a full sized bathroom, a full sized bed with a decent sized dresser, supplies for cleaning, a microwave, a kitchenette, a fridge, a cook stove, utensils, a screen glass sliding door, a furnace, air conditioning, and an outside hydrant.

The rates between Sunday and Thursday are typically $55 per night between April and September, and slightly cheaper at $45 per night between October and March. On Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays, the rates are slightly more expensive at $65 and $55 a night during the respective months.
