If you are looking for fun family-oriented activities, try going to one of Ohio’s state parks. One of the best is Sycamore State Park. It is located near Trotwood, Ohio, on 2,384 acres of land. There are numerous activities to do with your family there.
If you like camping, there is plenty of area to go camping in. You can reserve the campground for your group at the Group campgrounds by calling the park’s office. Group Camping site A is accessible for those who are handicapped and in wheelchairs. It is good for up to 100 people and has restrooms, sleeping shelters, a barn that has power, and grills to cook on. There is also a Camping Site B that is not wheelchair accessible. It has a cabin, fire rings, a shelter with power, restroom, and picnic tables. Both Sites A and B are available for tent camping as well.
There are areas where you can camp in primitive camping where you can keep your horses there as well. It has water, latrines, and tie-ups. It is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you will have to talk to the park office first about registration.
Fishing is another activity that is available at Sycamore State park. There is both angler and regular fishing, but you do have to have a current Ohio fishing license to go fishing there. You can catch all types of fish including bass, bluegill, and catfish. If you love fishing, this is the place to go!
Another activity you can enjoy there is boating. Take your boat out on the ponds which are fit for hand-power boating only, but canoes and rafts are perfect for the peaceful ponds contained in Sycamore State Park.
If you would like to enjoy a nice picnic with your family, try reserving the Grand Picnic pavilion. It can be reserved by contacting the park. The Grand Picnic area has doors and 2 big fireplaces so that you can really make use of the facilities all year long. You can reserve some of the others from February through the end of November.
Hiking is yet another activity that family members might enjoy. It will be hard to decide between the many trails that Sycamore State Park has to offer. There are trails that range from 1.3 miles up to a maximum of 8.9 miles. Depending on how far you want to walk, you can choose any range you like. Make sure you have good hiking boots and comfortable socks to wear while you are hiking so you do not get too many blisters.
If you are a hunter and you want to go hunting here, you will have to have a current Ohio hunting license. Squirrel and deer are the animals you can hunt at the park.
There is a Barn Lodge area that can be reserved for use during the day, and another smaller building that can be reserved during the day as well. They have wood burning stoves and a kitchen with stove and refrigerator if you want to do some cooking. You can rent these buildings for retreats or family reunions or just about any gathering you like.
The park can be found in the Wolf Creek Valley of Ohio, near Dayton. It is a beautiful area that is in western Ohio. Many people travel there to see the beautiful scenery.
