Lily Bay State Park

Lily Bay State Park offers 925 acres of forested land, shoreline and recreation space in central Maine.

At 40 miles long, Moosehead Lake is the largest lake in New England. The lake is the big feature in the park. Fish for landlocked salmon, trout and togue in the glacier-dug deep, cool water. Pitch a tent on the shore and enjoy swimming through the summer months or ice fishing through the winter. There is a boat launch for powered watercraft, so visitors can water ski, power boat and ski do across Moosehead Lake’s 117 square miles of water. Canoeing is popular amongst campers.

Mt. Kineo at Lily Bay State Park juts out over the lake and rises a dramatic 800 feet. The siliceous slate mountain was once well-revered by native Americans, who traveled to Mt. Kineo for the rock, which they fashioned into tools and arrowheads. The Moosehead region provides rugged trails for hiking and mountain biking. The mountain, with it’s sharp edges and cliffs, offers an inspiring view for campers, hikers and picnickers and harbors wildlife. The Mount Kineo Golf Course is nestled on the shore of Moosehead Lake next to the rise of the mountain. The course dates back to the 1880s.

Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy frequent moose sightings in Lily Bay State Park. Bear, deer and several varieties of birds are also common in the area. The park is part of the Hikes at Lily Bay State Park are available for all abilities, whether you are looking for a short and gentle trip into the woods to look for wildlife or enjoy the fresh, country air, or hours-long challenging courses through the mountainous terrain. Horseback riding trails offer a quiet and relaxing jaunt through the Maine’s back country.

The outdoor activity fun does not stop through the winter months. The trails at Lily Bay State Park are groomed for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Ice skating and Snowmobiles are welcome on Moosehead Lake. The park’s 90 campsites are open year-round for winter camping. Hunting is permitted in accordance to Maine state laws.

The Moosehead Lake area near the Lily Bay State Park is a popular destination in Maine. Outside of the park in the neighboring cities, restaurants and hotels flourish. Visitors can shop for locally crafted crafts and wares, boutique gift stores and outdoor activity equipment and outfitters.

The campsites at Lily Bay State Park are shaded and spacious, many of them right on the water. Showers and a playground are available to campers and an RV dump site is provided. Campers are urged to buy local firewood as to not import wood-bearing pests.
