Big Basin Redwoods is a state park in Santa Cruz California. It is approximately 65 miles south of San Francisco in the town of Boulder Creek. Getting to the park can be an adventure in itself with the beautiful scenery and winding roads that lead to it.
Big Basin Redwoods has various temperatures and climates throughout the year, and it receives 48 inches of rain annually. During the winter months guests can expect temperatures in ranging from the 20’s to the 50’s. During the spring, early morning rain showers and foggy evenings often start and end the day. This season usually sees high temperatures in the upper 60’s. Summer can be a great time to visit Big Basin Redwoods. Warm days (usually ranging from the 70’s to the 90’s) and cool nights are what we see here. One of the best times to visit Big Basin Park is the fall. With perfect weather that is not too hot or cold, you can experience almost everything that the park has to offer.
Big Basin Redwoods state park has activities that everyone can enjoy. Family campsites as well as RV lots are available. If you enjoy horseback riding, bring your horse and enjoy the wonderful riding trails. If biking or hiking is more your thing, we have several biking and hiking trails for you to maneuver. Hiking trails are available to those with several different skill levels. For the nature lover that longs to see animals in their natural habitat, there are several nature trails available with designated wild life viewing stations. Swimming, windsailing and guided tours are all options while visiting Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
Camping can be done at Big Basin Redwoods, tents, RV and Cabins are all available for those that would like to stay overnight. You can bring your food and provisions or visit our camp store, you can also rent bicycles there as well as find the perfect gift to take back home to remember your trip. If you need supplies than the basics the main center of Boulder Creek is just a short 9 mile drive. There you can find more restaurants and shopping.
A visit to the museum can give you a historical view of Big Basin Redwoods state park. Photographs of the parks progress as well as examples of some of the wildlife that you could experience while visiting the park including birds, reptiles, mammals and insects.
If you want to get away from it all, a visit to Big Basin Redwoods State Park will help you achieve your goal. There are only interment spots of mobile phone service, but pay phones are available at the park head quarters.
Visiting Big Basin Redwoods State Park can be the adventure of a lifetime, with so much to do and see there will not be a lack of activity, but if you just want to relax and take it easy, we can help you do that too.
