The Jetboil Flash Stove
From Jetboil, a company renowned for their outdoor cooking equipment comes the Jetboil Flash Stove. The Jetboil Flash Stove is a self contained cook system perfect for campers, hikers and just about anyone who enjoys the outdoor experience. This all in one combined burner and cooking vessel is perfect for boiling water for coffee, tea, cocoa or instant soup. With the ability to provide up to two cups of boiling water within two minutes, the Flash can even bring to life a freeze-dried gourmet meal for a cozy camp side supper.
The Jetboil Flash Stove consists of a one liter cup, a burner armed with a piezoelectric igniter, a translucent plastic lid, a translucent plastic base cover (which doubles as a measuring cup), and a fuel canister tripod. Packed together, the Flash measures 7.25 inches tall, 4.25 inches in diameter and weighs in at 15.4 ounces.
Using the Flash is simple enough as the parts are easily separated, ready for use. The cup locks neatly into the burner to avoid accidental spills with the tripod providing even more stability. A small black button triggers the igniter which produces a small spark enough to start the burner. A rectangular section of wire serves as a means to control the flame intensity. A neoprene cozy fits around the metal cup doubles as an insulator and a heat indicator that changes colors that alerts the user when the contents are hot.
When ready, the cup is easily detached from the burner. It features a drink-through lid and insulating bottom cover so that users may use the cup directly.
The Jetboil Flash Stove comes in orange, purple, blue and black. It has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $99.95. It is available in stores carrying hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor recreation merchandise.
Competitively priced, the Flash has a useful feature in that it is able to function even while suspended above ground. Since the burner is latched on tightly to the cup, mountaineers or snow campers who are unable to set the Flash on solid ground may choose to operate the stove while hanging via a hanging kit or a sturdy makeshift line.
While the Flash may not hold as much in terms of content, it is certainly enough for a person or two. With its usefulness and value, I would rate the Jetboil Flash Stove a 4 out of 5.
