Choosing the Right ATV Tires and Wheels

Riding an ATV is a fun experience for anybody, whether you are the type of person if doesn’t go outdoors much or you love to go camping and hiking. Riding on a bumpy dirt trail or jumping over the sand dunes offers up an adrenaline rush that few other experiences can offer. It is also a great way to take your mind off of stress. The all terrain vehicle industry offers a wide variety of brands to choose from, including Yamaha, Honda, Bombadier, Kawasaki, Polaris, and Suzuki, among others.

If you want to take your ATV riding seriously, you will need to keep your ride maintained. You may even want to consider upgrading it. To do so, you need to make sure that your bike is equipped with all the right accessories and parts. When you test the limits of what your ATV can do, you will be needing the best in wheels, tires, and winches.

Tires and wheels for ATVs can have quite an impact on your performance. There is no one tire that can conquer all types of terrain, but you can buy the best fit option for your purposes. Most ATV wheels will be good for whatever you throw at them, but if you plan on going overboard, you might consider looking for something very high quality. It’s also worth looking for a winch in order to make sure that you don’t get caught in an unfavorable situation.

Tires are of course the most obvious part that you will need to replace and maintain in order to get the most out of your vehicle. If you plan on going off road, and who doesn’t plan on it in a vehicle with “all terrain” in its name, than you will want to make sure your bike is equipped with some high quality off road tires. One of the things to think about when shopping around for tires is the number of wheels your ATV requires, since this will effect what is available and what you can afford. ATVs can come with three, four, or six wheels.

Of course, ATVs are by nature expected to be taken off road. For this reason you won’t face the same level of danger that you would if you bought a pair of street tires for your car and took it off road. Similarly, all ATVs have wheels which are geared toward off road use, and most will be able to handle the majority of abuse that you might throw at them. If you plan on using your ATV for more utilitarian purposes such as plowing and hauling, you will not necessarily have to get the most rugged wheels or tires on the market in order to equip yourself with what you need to get the job done.

When shopping for wheels and tires for your ATV, you will need to take into account what it will be used for. If you plan on jumping sand dunes, you’ll do best with sand tires, not trail tires or race tires. Tires and wheels designed for one purpose can certainly be used for other purposes. If you buy race tires they won’t cripple your ATV if you decide to take it on the trail. The main effect that tire and wheel choice will have on your performance is the speed with which you will be able to accomplish what you are going for.

There are quite a few high quality brands to choose from when looking for wheels and tires for an ATV. Brands such as Maxxis, ITP, Super Swamper, Intero, and Kenda have earned a trusted name in the business. It is worth considering the specifications between the different brands, and weighing your budget against how hard you want to test the vehicle.

Additionally, the more you plan on pushing your ATV, the more you will want to consider a winch. A winch may be what it takes to get you out of a situation where you are stuck where you don’t want to be. Trusted brands include Superwinch, Ramsey, Mile Marker, and Warn. Electric winches make the most sense for ATVs. You also will not be needing something that can pull six tons out of a ditch. In most cases, a winch with three thousand pounds of force will be enough for your purposes. In some cases you might need a little more than this. Check your ATV specs in order to make sure.
