Boy Scouts and Hiking

Boy Scouts and hiking go hand in hand, just as with camping and other forms of outdoor recreation. Boy scouts are taught early on about hiking and to take proper precautions in order to have a safe and enjoyable time hiking. Being safe is not only about being prepared, but also to avoid potentially dangerous situations whether it is due to accidents, nature, animals, or human beings. When it comes to hiking, a boy scout knows not to take any chances, especially when it comes to his life.

Hiking for boy scouts occurs frequently whenever they go on camping trips as they usually hike to their campsites. They are used to hiking and being safe but also having fun while hiking. They will often tell jokes or sing songs together to pass the time and admire the scenery together before stopping to pay respect to nature by not leaving any trash and cleaning up after themselves. This also means they will clean up after individuals who have left their trash behind should they find it because they care what happens to nature and encourage others to do the same.

Boy scouts also known when they should play it safe and not take any chances while hiking. They follow the “buddy rule”, which states they should always hike together in the event they become lost or injured. This also means carrying items like a compass, wearing the right clothing, shoes, water, and a first aid kit. It also means having a map of the area and knowing what weather could spring up during the time they are hiking which might make them change their plans or seek shelter if necessary.

Gear is very important when you travel and hiking is especially important. A compass is used to find your direction and to help you hike out of an area if you are lost when used in conjuncture with a map. A pocket knight and a first aid kit are important because if you injure yourself you will need to take care of the injury. However, the gear you use is not limited only to smaller items but also to the shoes and clothing you wear. Long clothing is essential when hiking to avoid cuts and scratches while the right shoes can protect your feet from injury and blisters.

Boy scouts are taught young how to hike and it eventually becomes second nature to them. No matter what occurs on a hike, they will have fun and be there for each other because they believe in teamwork and what hiking means to one another. They will bring along the right gear because they know they are going to need it, and will make sure each other brings along what they need to. In addition, they are always ready to lend a hand while hiking and will encourage others to go hiking with them, especially if families and friends profess an interest in joining them on a hiking trip.
