HELLO on this very rainy night and rainy week. The central air conditioner was winterized today and all the summer garden decorations have been put away for another year. So we are now into Harvest Thanksgiving, and soon to follow Halloween. Then...it's so difficult to say - the Christmas Season...
  2. What Bush Craft Means to Me

=====> I think some of the terminology might be out of date but skill is still valid. The use of technological advances is now part of course criteria. I remember [a time ago now] when I took my first Wilderness First Aid course and thinking how advanced it was and how advanced I would be. Then...
  3. The Shoot The Bull Thread

Let me help you out with the colours. From our Victoria Park in midtown.
  4. 1Lb bottle refills

=====> My gas one [pictured above] was $10 BUT I also have to purchase a small fuel can at $5.59 that can last most of the trip. The larger one is $9. Just sayin. :Smile2:
  5. 1Lb bottle refills

=====> In terms of this model, compared with the other models, including the ones you make, how much does the "titanium" cost?
  6. 1Lb bottle refills

=====> ...not that particular design but I have used a lot of cans with punched holes. Fun to make, easy to use and you can do your own creative design if you have a hankering.

We all have our favourite tools. I still like my cast iron stuff and use it frequently. I'm all for taking my skillet on a canoe trip appreciating that the weight is significant, but I do it anyway.
  8. Book review; Build the perfect survival kit by John D. McCann

=====> Isn't that true. It wouldn't be the first time I've observed someone pull out some fancy do-dad and not have a clue how to use it. I figure all this stuff I buy is a resource and an aid. No matter the kind of stove I brought (for example) I still know how to cook (properly) over an open fire.
  9. 1Lb bottle refills

=====> I'm with you "AK". I prefer an open fire with my cast iron fry pan. However, there are times (more often than enough) open fires are banned. When this happens I have a variety of stoves that will come to my aid. Recently when I'm tripping I use the following. Really compact as you...
  10. Teaching Kids to Ride

=====>When I began my career in earnest I worked, with what we called then, anti-social youth. Challenging in every way, I have numerous stories that I could share. I also taught street youth for five years and enjoyed every moment of it. But now? I don't have the motivation, tolerance, or...
  11. This is a REintroduction

=====> That's sometime ago. I have a hunch you have a lot of experience, know-how, and good stories that you can share. I for one would like to hear about them. :Smile2:
  12. Boys grow up & Men get old.

=====> I can immediately identify with your sentiment "AK".

  14. The Shoot The Bull Thread

I remember I had a trip I thought I was hexed. The stove gas line burst, the zipper in the tent got caught and tore the material, I didn't bring spare batteries for my headlight or camera, I took an inferior sleeping bag, my matches were damp, the rain put out my campfire and I forgot to bring...
  15. The Shoot The Bull Thread

Boy oh boy oh boy, Roybrew - you have my attention. Seemingly alone in some part of the forest with a blazing fire that would keep the vampires away. :Smile2: Looks a little chilly down your way much the same as it has been here. Tonight is going down to 39 and I'm sleeping out [in a tent] with...
