  2. GENERAL CARE OF TENTS^^^

CAMPING LIFE with Northern Dancer The fall is now with us and very soon the winter will entertain us with snow, sleet, wind, and ice. But no matter the season or what part of the forest you live in it is always important to take care of your tent. GENERAL CARE OF TENTS Use a "foot", or as...
  3. I use to sleep on the ground

If I waited for the perfect condition I just couldn't be going anywhere or doing anything. Weather, for me, is just part of the programme.
  4. What Bush Craft Means to Me

I agree with you Pine and often see remnants left behind. Then the are the trees that are slashed, others with gigantic nails protruding, cords, wire, hooks, and just plain vegetation debris, etc. With all the electronic stuff and the new advances of equipment bushcraft skills have become out...

=====> OF COURSE WE MISSED YOU. What's a crew without the captain? Glad to hear that things are on the mend. Not only do these storms do so much damage they do something to our spirit too. You get the gnawing feeling that things are really going to be bad. We have had a lot of storms in recent...
  6. 1Lb bottle refills

ya know somethin? I just couldn't be bothered. I got a small 10-pound tank and I can have it filled [in the neck of the woods] for 10 bucks. To buy the regular canisters would have cost me 74 or more. So I stay with the small tank at 10 pounds. I still have my 60-pound for the backyard barbeque.
  7. I use to sleep on the ground

I was getting carried away with the "extra stuff" simply because it is so readily available. I didn't graduate from the sublime to the ridiculous but I came to a sudden halt on buying equipment. I frequently ask myself, "Do you really need it?" I'm certainly a minimalist camper when it comes to...
  8. I use to sleep on the ground

The weather certainly can have an adverse effect on our outdoor adventures. I tend to use outfitter's tents and other equipment to match the elements. There have been a few times that I have used an Adirondack but usually tents - good ones. I've paid more attention to being prepared for the...
  9. I use to sleep on the ground

=====> I do have a warm-down sleeping bag. I have a rain fly. I do have an up-to-date inflatable mattress. What do I win? :Smile2::Smile2::Smile2: You express a good point, Pine - responding to, being cognizant of, and being in tune with the weather conditions + equipment, goes a long way to...
  10. I use to sleep on the ground

HI DENNI2 Sorry about the trip - though I think we can all related to what you shared. We had some of that kind of weather this year on our canoe trip. BUT, I was well equipped and simply refused to let the elements wreck our trip. Nice to see you online and hope to see you again. LAKE HURON
  11. Outdoor Plates and Bowl recommendations?

I looked at the titanium [and other products too] but didn't buy it. Only because I have a habit of losing utensils and thus the cost is inhibitive for me. When I'm at base camp I usually use a tin plate and bowl and when I'm tripping I use a standard plastic set that's lighter. The set, with...
  12. Outdoor Plates and Bowl recommendations?

I remember the "pink plate" or the old Melmac dishes that were a standard at camp. We had the cups, bowls, and plates - always a complete set. Melmac - A brand name of dinnerware molded from melamine resin, made by American Cyanamid, most popular in the 1940s through the 1960s.
  13. Outdoor Plates and Bowl recommendations?

I have more than one "mess kit" and "utensils kit" based on what I will be doing. When I'm canoeing I take a different set of instruments because I'm looking for portability and lightweight items. Your idea of a bowl plate combination might be well received [like other pieces of equipment] that...

    Welcome to the site Isaac.
  15. Outdoor Plates and Bowl recommendations?

Welcome to the site Isaac. Food Serving Items, like other equipment, is a matter of choice. Usually decided on when one determines the kind of camp/canoe experience they plan to engage. I have more than one "mess kit" and a "utensils kit" I use based on where I am going and how long I plan to...
  16. What Bush Craft Means to Me

=====> Coming from you I accept that as a supreme compliment. It seems to me that we haven't seen much of you of late - I hope this isn't the last. Wisdom, experience, and character are needed more today than ever. Thanks again, hope to see you online real soon.

=====> I will be certainly thinking of you and the family.
  19. What Bush Craft Means to Me

✔ Bushcraft is the use and practice of skills, acquiring and developing knowledge and understanding, in order to survive and thrive in a natural environment. Bushcraft skills, therefore, provide for the basic physiological necessities for human life: food, water sourcing and purification...
