We made one last trip to the range on Friday afternoon. Guns are sighted in and ready to go. Licenses are laid out along with the rest of our gear. Our stands have been visited and our hunting area has been scouted. We are forced to hunt on state game lands this year but that is a story in itself and rather than dwelling on this we will just have to make the best of it. Grandson is sleeping uneasily and can't wait for that 4:30 wake up call. I'm excited, the way I used to get when I was younger, except my excitement is more for him than for myself. Last year was his first year hunting and I wallowed in the anticipation I had for him to get his first deer. As the season ended we saw several deer but at distances too far for good clean kills and so never a shot was taken. But we had a great time just being together and trying to get the perfect shot. This year has some promise and the low I felt at the end of the season last has been upgraded to a high of anticipation for a better season this year.I hope we have picked better spots this year than last but I really hope that my partner collects his first deer this year. I do know one thing and this can't be taken away from me by any one or any thing, and that is that, We have had a great time preparing for the season and in the end,Deer downed and tagged or not, we will have another great time together afield. Guess I better hit the rack myself so I can be ready to go in the AM. Wish us luck and thanks for reading.:tinysmile_fatgrin_t
