On recent trips, I've noticed others in the group having a lot more trouble with mosquitos than me. While that makes those mosquito magnets desirable to invite on the next trip, it still makes me wonder why? I've heard various reasons such as don't eat bananas but do eat tomatoes but never seen any real facts.

So, running across this article, I decided to post it so we get "the word" from a "distinguished panel of experts". :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Well I've got two out of the list. Beer and bare feet. Somehow they just seem to go together.

I never have been much of a skeeter magnet. My wife seems to attract them like crazy though. I always figured its the different soaps or deodorants we use. You know, all that stuff women wear to make themselves stink good.

So now we have it from an expert, and on my next trip I will be inviting a pregnant, beer drinking woman with type O blood, one who loves to wear black clothing and run in her bare feet. That should help keep them off of me and if not there is always Deep Woods Off.

Well, I wear dark clothes, drink beer, and have a tendency to enjoy howling at a full moon. But the mosquitos still don't like me.

I think there's more to it than that.

For home use, we live in the Brazos River Valley, I buy cedar bark mulch and hand broadcast it around the yard. Just a very thin spread that falls into the grass and disappears.
Works great and for $40 works all summer long.

I don't think they prefer some people to others. I think some people complain more than others and some people focus on the little annoyances over the big picture. The people who are always complaining about mosquitoes are also the first people to complain about the heat, the humidity, their chair, the rain, the food, pretty much anything. They are the people who refuse to accept that nothing is ever perfect.

Blood type is the only thing from that list that I have. I can be bundled from head to toe and they still get me. I was always told growing up that they want those with "sweet blood" and I guess universal donor takes the cake on that one. Nothing we can really do to change about that compared to the others on the list.

Well I guess i just found out why my ankles got eaten by the little bloodsuckers. I had stinky feet because my sandals got wet with lake water and stunk for the majority of the trip. They stink so bad right now that they are sitting outside.

Coz, I'm going to be putting you to the test on this! I have an AWFUL mosquito problem in my shady back yard. We already mulch over a lot of the area we use, near the deck and so on, but I'm pretty sure it's pine mulch. So I'm going to the store today and buying the cedar bark mulch. Stay Posted!

I just read mosquitoes like beer drinkers so you might consider buying the spouse a case on the way home....LoL

I've noticed that it depends where I am as to how many buggers I have trying to attack me. At home they are all over me no matter what I do, but out camping I don't seem to be bothered by them as much as everyone else is.

My wife is a mosquito and tick magnet. We can hike through the same field and she will be picking off dozens of ticks while I may have one or two. She'll be swatting mosquitoes constantly while I'll sit there relatively untouched. I've come to think her issue with mosquitoes is imaginary. There are times I don't see any around and she's swatting.
