What is your favorite fish to catch and eat? Is that fish local so you can try to get it frequently, or can you only catch it yourself while on vacation?

If it's catch and eat then I go with trout. For just the eating, I like most fish I have tried.

As you might guess from my nickname, I'd have to say I enjoy fishing for and catching panfish (the various sunfish, rock bass (aka redeye around here) and crappie- perch also, but I have to travel a little to get into perch country).

They are plentiful, fun to catch on light tackle and great eating (albeit a bit of a challenge to filet). I also like the fact that the limit is "all you can catch plus one".

I really miss fishing for salt water flounder fish! They can get really big out there and you'll definitely know when you got one on the line because they are already on the bottom. Blue fish are also a great one to fish for as well. Bass, trout, and catfish are really fun to catch too.

As far as eating, I'll eat almost any fish! Except tilapia, no thanks.

Tilapia is a little bland and I dislike catfish. I like most other fish, but trout is probably my favorite.

I once had some kind of white fish at a fish boil up in Wisconsin. I wish I knew what it was; it was so good.

I'd guess either walleye or whitefish. Walleye is one of the best eating fish out there. Whitefish is good eating too, and great when smoked.

One time when I was travelling on the UP of Michigan I saw signs in church lots and Elks Lodges, etc ""Friday night fish fry- All You Van Eat Walleye". Unfortunately...I wasn't up there on a Friday :-( . I would have done my best to put them in the red.

I really, really enjoy reading a good book on the banks of the river or lake while my husband or dad or brother do the fishing. That is pretty much a perfect day for me. As for eating, I like 'em all as long as it isn't farm raised (which pretty much excludes tilapia). Halibut and salmon are hard to beat, but freshly caught pan trout for breakfast next to an alpine lake on the third morning of a backpacking trip is just sublime.

I enjoy both perch and catfish. Fortunately there are spots close by in my area for catching both because fresh is definitely better than frozen.
