Grandson was mowing the lawn and a cow moose came around the corner of the house. He just shut off the mower and stood still so he wouldn't spook her. She walked around the house, then headed back down to the creek. She probably has a baby down there somewhere. But the grandkids got a kick out of watching her. It was almost like she was looking for Snoop, our yellow lab, to come out to play but we kept him in the house.

It was a good year for moose [May 2017] at
Cannisbay Lake - I just sat there with a coffee
watching the show.

...I found moose are a tad more dangerous than the common black bear. For one thing, they roam and wander at will, and as large as they might become they are surprisingly quiet when coming through the forest. I've had one as close as ten feet from my tent door just doing its thing. If you get to close they have a sort of snorting whinny that tells you to back off. Other than that they don't seem to be afraid of you.
