I have an uncle that likes to go shining. For those of you who are not sure what shinning is; it's when you have a big light on your truck and you go on back roads/trails looking for whatever animal you can find. Last summer we spotted a huge buck and followed him for about a mile before he entered some terrain we could not follow him into. This is lots of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Hi...

Yeah, it does sound like fun.

One must be careful, though...depending where you are located. In some areas that is not allowed, especially for deer. In other areas, the 'innocent' shining of a light into one's home could lead to something called 'invasion of privacy'.

Here it is called spot lighting & if you have any thing with you that could be used as a weapon it is illegal. I see enough at night with the headlights on bright to know what is out there. I would much rather see them in the day time while I'm sitting still in the woods wearing camo & holding my bow. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Spot lighting is fun , especially for young children. Chaseing wildlife with a vehicle is unethical and where I live, illegal. It puts a strain on big game animals and in areas where homes are located you could cause the animal to run into traffic or into peoples property causing property damage and endangering both the animal and the people who live there. It is also illegal to shine your light onto buildings here and you can be fined even if you didn't know the buildings where there.

Same here. Shining has a completely different connotation and involves corn, water, yeast, a heat source and copper tubing.

I was going to point that out, myself. Down here in WV we're quite familiar with that type of shining. Known a couple of fellows that spent some time as guests of the Feds....
