When camping during the summer in the Grand Canyon all I do is set a clear plastic bottle of water in the sun on top of something dark and within a few hours the water is hot enough to heat a dehydrated meal to temp. But then it is usually 110 degrees outside from june to august.

Your solar power technique is a great idea. I trek mainly in Scotland although I do go to hotter countries at times. I shall definitely use your idea when I trek in the sahara next year.

It's kind of the same principle with an outdoor shower. Nothing like a nice hot shower after a sweaty and dusty day on the trail.
