This is a good way to learn from someone elses mistake.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

LiveLeak.com - The Deer Hunter

It was a good thing he wasn't gored by that buck.
You can tell the level of hunting experience goes right along with the home made tree stand. But it is still funny. :tinysmile_fatgrin_t

The approach was okay. The first clue is the eyes were shut. That means the deer is not dead. Finish it and put it out of its misery.

A dead deer/elk will have its eyes open and they start to haze over immediately after death. If the eyes are closed or if they have not started to glaze over, do not approach but shoot it again. Approach from uphill and the rear.

Ok for someone who is looking at getting into deer hunting. What would have been the correct way to approach the deer?
Set back for a hour +/- and wait for the animal to die peacefully.
Be ready with a follow up shot if needed.
The idea is a quick (instant) and painless kill. It is only fair for the animal.

Does anyone else wonder how bad that kid's mini heart attack was? I hate to laugh at it and this could have gone much worse but it makes me wonder why people are not reading up before they attempt hunting. I have gone a few times and I swear I hit the books and polled people before I even stepped foot in the woods. I wanted to get an idea of the worst case things, like this before it might happen. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Even if the eyes are open I still approach the deer from the back of the head & touch the deer's eye lid with the muzzle of my (ready to fire) gun. Just to verify it has passed.
I don't know about the "mini heart attack" but I bet he had to clean his pants.
