instead of your snickers my go to hunting camping snack is chocolate pop tarts. More often than now they in my hunting jacket or tackle box. I carry other things as well of course but they my guilty snack and pick me up
-----> I noticed, among other things, your cooler. You sure had the boat full of stuff suggesting it was a hardy trip. I love canoeing rivers, taking my time to round the bends, and occasionally coming ashore to explore the terrain. On the way back from hauling off the busted up cinder block, brick and all that stuff from installing my door, I looked down toward the river from the highway. It was to far to get a good picture, so I screen shot one off the internet. View attachment 3183 I love fishing this river, but the current and some shoals make it a little to challenging to paddle up stream. I normally put in at the Christen Bend boat ramp and take out 7 miles down stream. That usually requires a shuttle. I have put in at the ramp and gone all the way around the bend and took out where the river meets the road again. I would strap my bicycle to the front of the canoe, so I could peddle the 2.5 miles back to the vehicle. This works very well as long as you don't get squished riding on the little crooked road.
All this thinking got me reminiscing. I remember when my nephew and I did a longer stretch of this river and easily made a 2 day trip out of it.View attachment 3184 we had a great time.View attachment 3185 This is a big river. Not a real deep or rapid river but it has enough current and shoals to keep a person's attention.

-----> I've never done the screaming bit I was so acutely aware of my circumstance that my mouth was closed as I was focussed on just getting through. But, I have to admit, it was exhilarating to be bouncing up and down and making it to the peaceful shore. I get goosebumps watching the pros navigate the wilds of a river. Me? Give me a placid lake, river, or stream. That's where I'm at.Nah. I'd probably grab the gunnels and go down screaming.
