    How do you keep snakes away from your camping tent? I was told that putting salt or ash from your campfire around your tent will do the trick. Have you ever tried it?

    Winter time hike safety tips

    Great tips Michael, thanks. What about food? I read that ginger, pepper and cinnamon have warming effects in your body. I think taking food with the spices added before you hike will help a bit.

    National forest or state park

    I prefer national forests also but Wendolyn has a good point about the wild life. That's why in national forests, I prefer to go in group. I have no issue hiking alone in state parks.

    Rare orchids

    Yeah, I agree with you about taking a picture of the flower and do nothing else with it. On trekking trails, I will take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time. 8-:
