What do you do to prevent being hit by vehicles when riding near roads? A buddy of mine got hit the other day. Fortunately, he got away just a little banged up.

Well, there is nothing you can do to completely negate the chance of being struck by a vehicle while riding on roads. The best you can do is make sure to obey all the rules of the road. Treat your bike like you're a car ... stop at red lights and stop signs, yield to right-of-way when making a turn, and always make sure to stick to routes with bike lanes. Doing all of those will never guarantee that you'll not be hit by a car, but they give you the best chance to making it home safely.

Wow, I wish we had biking lanes in our area. I've lived here my entire life and have seen maybe 2 biking lanes in the entire city.

I don't like biking where there are many vehicles passing beside me. I only go biking on the countryside where I can hear a vehicle coming then I could go at the side of the road.
