Color of The Fishing Line?

Is there any important preference when it comes to choosing a color of the fishing line? I know some guys that prefer green to match the surroundings and some transparent for the same reason. What's your take on this, if any?

hey Barney i have found that a transparent line works really well

I've only tried green line a couple times when I ran out of transparent and I don't think I've had the same amount of luck when it comes to getting bites. Of course, maybe it wasjust coincidence.

I am used to transparent line but let me say this: If it wasn't OK to use colored (green) fishing line manufacturers wouldn't sell it.
