Has anyone had any experience with the Glock e-tool ?
My parents are finally getting on board with this whole outdoor experience thing and need some gear. This was something my Dad saw in a magazine, and I know most of you guys know your gear!

I think the Salvation Army issues them to the troops, or is that Sweeden?
Kinda big for the backpack, kinda small for the camper.
Glock builds some good stuff, I would care to guess it is of good quality.

I have a similar tool in my camping utility box for when we go car camping and I might have used it 2 or 3 times in the last 10 years. I would never carry it while backpacking as it is too much weight for something that you probably won't need to use.

I don't think we will ever get them to go backpacking so it would mostly be car camping I imagine. My dad is very into tools that multi-task! :)

Canoeing camping etc they very handy. One lives in my Jeep and you jeepers know why. I use one most often in cooking. Like i said before my favorite cooking method is having the cooking grate close to the camp fire and transfering coals to and vrom the grate as needed. Thats a great use of the ole entrenching tool. I never carried one on my back though. They take up valuable weight better utilized by moon shine. :)

I haven't seen this before. I like it. I'm actually considering getting one for myself now. You never know when something like this will come in handy!

I thought it was pretty neat too when I saw it. Both my hubby and my Dad are huge Glock fans so I imagine they will both end up with one sooner or later. :)

I have seen a ton of these types of tools but I have yet to meet anyone that has actually used one or even almost had a need for it. Maybe its more for sport to say you have one than really use it??

I would say that it is best to look at your most probable use for a tool, then look at the way the tool will fit that scenario, does this tool fit the BIG picture..

We have 3 Glock e tools in our SAR Team Trailer for Disaster work.. we have not used them as of yet..

i don't have this specific brand, but i find a shovel that folds sideways for entrenching to be great for camping. If it is a rainy trip, often times large puddles will form right in the middle of a campsite and an entrenching tool can be used to redirect the water from that puddle to a location that is out of the way. Just remember to fill up any trenches you dig so you don't leave a big mess for the next campers. a shovel is also nice for moving coals around if you need.

personally i think the glock is oversized for this application (wide head is harder to dig trenches and harder to fill the trenches back up). I have a much smaller one made by coughlan that was very cheap and the perfect size for trenches (has a pick as well). i'd rather carry the smaller shovel i have and a sven folding saw than this glock tool that attempts to do three things but doesn't seem to do any of them very well...
