How long does it take to be an expert?

From the time you start rock climbing to the time that you become and expert, how long does it take? Does this depend on skill, physical fitness level or both?

when it comes to climbing an expert is someone who knows his limits as he has already tested his limits and went above. There can never be a time frame to measure Expert. Just live it, Love it, for a long time and you will develop your own expertise refined personality of your adventure.

Fridge is pretty much on the money...being an expert is more about knowing your limits and finding ways to improve your abilities or just accept what you have.

Consider all the climbing "experts" that have died doing what they loved doing...
