Survival fishing

Has anybody ever had to fish to eat? When my husband was growing up his family was poor. I mean, really poor. They had a garden and a pond and everyday after school he had to go to the pond and fish for their dinner. Thankfully we don't live like that now, but I think it's pretty cool that he had that responsibility as a child because now he is so appreciative of what we have.

I remember forgetting the food on a camping trip I went on, but lucky for me there was fishing line in my bag and a lake near by. I was only out there for a couple of days but those fish saved my life.
