My aunt it 55 and never learned how to swim. She loves to be at the lake near the water, but won't go in. Is she too old to learn now or get over her fear?
Of course she is not too old to learn how to swim. Either take her to lessons or teach her yourself. All it takes is her desire and water. She has a lot of life to live!
I say let her enjoy what she likes to do. If she don't like swimming then don't force her to do it. She can learn to swim but there are things that we shouldn't encourage if it will endanger them.
Fifty five is young ! If she wants to learn to swim then encourage her, if she doesn't then leave her be and provide her with a safety vest if she wants to paddle in deeper water, go on boats etc.
took my mother (85) on weekend trip... she can not swim a lick.. she had a great time... placed a poontoon on a canoe, very stable.. even in rapids... (class 1,2)
