My (almost) 5 year old loves to dig for worms, help me in the garden, go "exploring" with her magnifying glass, sidewalk paint, hopscotch, bubbles, going for walks, backyard picnics, anything to do with getting wet (sprinklers, buckets of water, wading pool), use sidewalk chalk on the fence, trees, and any other available surface, and all kinds of sports. We have a tee ball set, a little soccer net and ball, jump rope, toy golf clubs/balls, and I'll probably get her a kids' basketball hoop for her upcoming birthday. We'll probably buy or build a good, tall swingset this summer. Right now she's just running races with her little sister. We don't have decent sidewalks in this neighborhood, but at least a couple times a week, we load up their bikes and take them somewhere they can ride. In winter, they like stomping around in their snowshoes, making snow angels, and stockpiling snowballs to use against Dad. Both of my girls also love to go hiking, but that's been our main family activity since they were born.
