Backpack weight

How much is too heavy? Is there a ratio between body weight and backpack weight? I feel a constant strain on my shoulders and back whenever I carry a backpack around.

For me my max backpack weight is 35lbs but I like to keep it under 27lbs.

First few times I went out my pack was around 40lbs. Me and my Wife are prepping our packs for the next trip in a few weeks and I just weighed my pack at 20lbs and hers at 15lbs but thats not including water weight. So im thinking ill hit around 26-29lbs for my pack and bout 22lbs for hers when its all said and done. On the summer trips our packs will weigh about 5lbs less per pack. And over the next year we are gonna try and upgrade our sleeping bags and shed some weight.
