crab bait

Crab are opportunistic scavengers.

The best bait I've ever used in a crab trap happens to be skanky chicken. I let a thigh sit in the sun and go off, and then use it as the bait in the trap.

Because we don't cook the crab whole, we aren't at risk for getting sick ourselves.

What's your favorite bait?

I used to go to the local butcher and just grab the chicken scraps they were tossing. Stuff worked good for me, so I never tried anything else. Well, I take that back. I used to use the left overs from cleaning fish I caught too.

I can honestly say that I've never gone crabbing before. Not to distract from the topic, but how long do you leave the crab bait in the water for and how many crabs do you normally get? This makes me think of that one show, Deadliest Catch but the trabs can't be that big for individuals, can they?
