Making it More Comfortable

Ok, I'm a newbie here who is looking for a little advice. I've been an active hiker and camper for years-but the wife and I are getting on. Hiking is ok in modified form, we are taking it easier. But camping is downright uncomfortable.

What would you recommend for cradling ageing bones?

Are you able to take some kind of camping cot? I'd think that would be more comfortable, especially compared to sleeping just on a camping mat on the ground.
