Saltwater and footwear

I've wrestled with this for years, and still don't have a 'satisfactory' solution, so I'm asking you guys if any of you do:

Saltwater and my hiking boots are no strangers. I'm determined to get that damned smell (you know the one I'm talking about) out of those boots, and but for Gold Bond powder, fabric softener sheets, and sunshine, I don't know how to get that awful "sea" smell out of my boots.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Kiwi makes an excellent athletic shoe deodorant that works wonders on my husband's running shoes---if it works on THOSE, I think there's a good chance it might work on your boots.
