If you're concerned about the aluminum pole, put something underneath it to isolate it from the ground. With no ground potential in the pole, it will be pretty much invisible to the lightning.First off the idea of sitting in a tent with aluminum poles bothers me. Second I feel better if I can see what is happening. I'll find a low area and squat there on the balls of my feet to limit contact with the ground
Lightning will sometimes strike and travel along a wash or ravine, as these areas are moister than the surrounding dry ground. I would not squat in a low area.
