I know tents say they are waterproof, but I remember being caught in a tent in the rain and the floor and the sleeping gear on the floor got wet.

How do you make your tent truly waterproof?

all tents need to be seem sealed you can buy seam seal at any wally world.
also use a foot print with your tent this will not only protect the floor of the tent but also make a moisture barrier.
and a double wall tent works best in rain, also known as a rain fly.
its been my experience the single wall tents suck

I would recommend you never get your hopes up. I have been in many different tents and every one of them leaks in some way. I hate when it rains as I always end up wet no matter how hard I try to stay dry.

I also take along an extra tarp that fits over the top of my tent in case it rains. Then I just secure it to the tent pegs.
