If you don't live anywhere near a large body of water, how or where can you learn to scuba dive? Are there many courses at swimming pools, or do you take a vacation and do learn somewhere else?
Son-in-law was a certified instructor. They would start their courses in a swimming pool before they went to open water. In the winter they would have to travel about 200 miles to a deep enough lake fed by hot springs for the open water certs. There were plenty of close by lakes and reservoirs for open water certs in the summers. I guess it would depend on your location.
Our local community pool offers lessons but I don't know if every pool does this. If you can't find any programs near you, I think you can find a certified diver or instructor who can teach you privately. You can check out padi.com for more info, I believe.
