AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands has purchased a 145.6 acre parcel of land located to the west of Aroostook State Park, expanding the park's size by 25%.
The parcel was originally appraised at $115,000. The Department came up with $60,000 split evenly between the Land For Maine's Future Funds and the federal Recreational Trails Program. The remainder came from the owner of the property, Nancy Askin from Massachusetts. She offered a $55,000 donation of value.
The land is expected to provide the park with scenic hiking trails, protection of a cross country trail and more lands for hunting.

Bless her soul for giving a big chunk of his property for the benefit of all. I hope the bureau will place a reminder that the additional lot was given by Nancy in acknowledgement of her benevolence.

Amen to that. Maybe they can set up a picnic area with a commemorative plaque pointing out her very generous contribution. I love hearing stories like this.
