    Leaves turning

We're not, unfortunately. Fall is one of my favorite times of year because I love the foliage but this year it's pretty crappy. I think it might be from the spring and summer being so dry, too. Now we're getting drizzle and rain almost every day. Strange weather this year.

Man Behind 40 Year Old Note Found

That's a nice story. I can imagine that the one who wrote the note had given up on the idea of anyone finding it a long time ago or he figured someone had just tossed it out. Did the story say if the peak was rarely traveled or did the guy just hide it well all those years ago?

    Tricks on filleting?

Try as I might, I cannot fillet a fish to save my life. Well, I can do it but it ain't pretty and I tend to lose half the fish. I tend to catch them, clean them, and bake them with the skin still on mostly because I can't fillet properly. Any tips for a butterfingers with the fillet knife?

    Bad Day Fishing is Possible!!

I opened this thread all prepared to refute your subject line, but I guess I can't argue with that video. That could definitely ruin a good fishing day, no doubt about it.

What do you eat every trip?

Fish, because it's a rare thing that we don't go camping where there's some good fishing nearby. When we fish, we cook what we catch. If we have a lousy day fishing or want a break, then it's usually steaks, hotdogs or sandwiches.

    Kayaks for beginners

I've canoed since I was a kid but I've not yet attempted kayaking. My sister and her husband love it because there are kayaks that go with the camp they rent a couple times a year. She's got me interested but I want to find out the best type of kayak for a beginner to get. Any suggestions?

Bear breaks into house for cake

Can you imagine coming downstairs half asleep and dying for coffee, only to find a bear cub in your kitchen? That would be funny if it happened to a friend who happened to have a terrible hangover, wouldn't it?

    Went canoeing yesterday!

Canoeing down the stream to the country store about 5 miles away is one of my favorite after supper activities. The stream doesn't have a hard current so it's not difficult to come back after and it's a relaxing way to work off the calories.

Dealing with poisonous snakes and insects

Up here in Maine, we don't have any poisonous snakes or insects. A few can make you sick if they bite you but they're not deadly or anything. For those of you who hike, camp or hunt where you do have indigenous snakes and insects that are deadly, is this a major problem?

    In the wilds of Maine

I've never heard of Lily Bay. I'm only about 30 minutes from the lower edge of the Rangeley Lakes area (Lewiston, Livermore Falls). The best part is up by Saddleback, though, and that's closer to 2 hours away. Beautiful country up there, that's for sure! Acadia is gorgeous, too, especially...

    By land or by sea?

I enjoy fishing from the dock, from the shore, wading in the creek or out on a boat. As long as it's freshwater, I'll do it. Now ocean fishing, on the other hand, that's a whole different story. The few times I went out on the ocean, I got sick as a dog.

    Cane Pole Fishing

This must be a southern thing because it's nothing I've ever heard of up here in Mainiac country. What the heck is the cork for? A homemade bobber? It ain't the bait, is it?

    Ice-Fishing?

We do some ice fishing every winter, come about January usually. By then the ice is thick enough all the way across the stream. I only use a shack when I go elsewhere and a friend has one or we rent one (yeah, they do that up here). I've used an axe or a manual auger, depending on what's...

    In the wilds of Maine

Actually, I'm more in farm country but there's a lot of thick woods and I'm not far from real wilderness areas. I have a small farm on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. Get some good fishing in down in the stream and hunt some on the other end of the property. All in all, it's a good life.
