    Do you have any phobias?

people afraid of snakes... I've heard that people and other animals have evolved a sort of instinctual fear of snakes. Even animals like sharks don't like them, that's the idea behind this sticker you can put on your surf board, it looks like poisonous snake markings and sharks don't want to...

    A good hat

I'm a huge fan of Tilley hats too but they are super expensive... like $100+ http://h1ker.com/tilley-hat/ The cool thing is they last forever and have a great warranty. They also float and they stay on with the simple chin and back string thing so blowing away isn't as much of an issue. The...

    Horseshoes and camping

I haven't played horseshoes for years but I really enjoy it. Perfect casual game to play over a good conversation as the sun sets.

Somebody Said, "Go Fly A Kite". So I did....

I've seen some really cool kite pics from people who do kite surfing! There was even one with sharks below the surfer just swimming around. Do you have any pics to share CGKiteman?

Animals you encounter on a hike

Once when I was hiking at the Arastradero Preserve near Palo Alto, CA I came across a wild tarantula! It was so cool to see that thing crawling across the trail in the wild. I've hiked there many times since but never say another one :)

    Decent size

I've actually had several great online purchases in the $2K+ range. I bought a truck I had never seen in person and had it shipped all the way across the country. Things worked out great! it was really unique and held up well... It's always a risk buying online but knowing what you want helps a...

    Poor little rabbit...

It's a tough call, nice to know you have feelings for the little guy :) I once came across a crab on the beach in Bermuda that had all of its legs taken off by birds. He was still alive but could only really look around and was going to get slow cooked there so I decided to put him on a rock...

    Do it yourself, ATV repair

I'm not sure? My grandfather recently repaired two ATV's but the price can really climb if the clutch or engine components are shot.

    Hello from beautiful Taos, NM

Sounds like a nice place! Have you been to Austin Texas ever? I'm going to visit soon and could use some tips on great trails and outdoor stuff... especially water stuff since the summers get so hot :P

    Who Cares?

It's an interesting situation... getting a lot of bad press since the economy is struggling. I like tradition and believe in celebrating positive things, has anyone seen press on how they've tried to keep the event cheaper than normal this year?

    Pack Weight?

Man Refrigerator, I can't even believe that. 75lbs? I was carrying something like 35 when I hurt my knee but we were doing a lot of up and down and moving pretty quick. I hadn't worked my way into it, was spending a lot of time at the office leading up to the trip. Did 10 miles in and 10 miles...

    Snake!

I agree with GROUNDpounder, it's sad that you killed it. We've already displaced so many plants and animals with the roads and buildings we make... Camping is about visiting the natural world.

    Swimming in lakes.

Maybe the people you talked to were afraid of whirlpools created in reservoirs when water is let out through dams. Google "The Glory Hole at Monticello Dam" and check out the crazy pictures... I wouldn't swim near that!

    Kids and tents

Bit off subject here but read the book "the last american man". It's about a boy who grows up camping and living in the woods. I think he's a great example of someone who, regardless of age, was always camping outside and just had a knack for it. I think eight and nine is plenty old. You could...

How Did You Get Started Camping?

Hey guys, I'm new here but definitely not new to camping! I didn't used to be such a big fan and in recent years myknees have been a little sensitive on the downhill. I think I realized I loved camping when I was with my family as a kid and had my dog sleeping in my tent. We fed him a...

    Equipped to survive.

Yeah, my friend mentioned something about GPS maybe changing or going away? What's the deal there... I have a Garmin and really like it, trying to get it mounted in my car right now.
