How To Talk Husband Into Going

HAHAHAHAHAHA Yup!! You better believe we guys do a whole lot for the combo. I've even done some illegal things for the combo but we won't talk about that here. :P My wife was reluctant until I had taken her on a couple of "backyard" camping trips. After she got used to the idea, she was...

    Tarps!

Well the last guy who rented my house must have loved sleeping under the stars. When I first moved in here, when I finally got in bed, I turned out the light and rolled over on my back. I just about freaked out. They had put a bunch of those glow in the dark stickers on the ceiling and you...

    I feel like a fool

OW! I used a razor blade once to clean the gunk off of a bullliten board. I wound up slicing off the end of my left hand's middle finger. Now if I give someone the bird with that hand, I give them a little extra-and that's not a joke. Be careful man, razor blades are serious.

    Bug bites and toothpaste

That's a good tip. I would rather look spotted than to itch to pieces. I worked outside at dusk the other night and got so many mosquito bites, I looked like I had the chicken pox.

Where can you park Pop ups?

To answer your initial question: Near the bathrooms:tinysmile_hmm_t:! LOL My son just bought a new one so he is going on a trip to Tennessee but I can't see my dear daughter in law doing anything in the outdoors. She's a city girl so she has NO skills at all in camping.

What do you consider trash fish?

Carp, definitely. I don't like them even if you get the mud seam out. I do have friends who like them though so I bring them on to the house and call them. They will come over and get them. But I have to admit, the way they cook the carp makes them taste good. I asked them once how they did...

    Too hot to go

Yeah, us too. We have also had anywhere from 80-90% humidity where we are. I'm not going to be able to walk anywhere for the rest of the summer so I guess I'm going to stay around the campfire and talk and whittle. But yeah, during the day-AC is very welcome.

    Dratted Horse!

I went riding this last weekend and my favorite horse must have had something against me. We were trail riding and I got off to give him a break. We were going to take an hour or so break so I took off his saddle and his blanket. When I went to put the saddle back on him after cooling down, he...

    Dry ice?

Have you tried freezing 1/2 gallon milk jugs filled with water? They are cheap to get:tinysmile_twink_t2:and take a while to melt. They also can be placed at each end of the cooler and they work pretty well.

Going To Be A Dead Possum

I have a possum or two around my place that are driving me crazy. I hunt anyway so I'm thinking of lying in wait for these pests. They have been stealing my outdoor animals food and making a mess on our porches. I thought I had killed one the other night with a club (I hit it on the head)...

    Arkansas Flood Hits Popular Campground

FernGully, I think this was a flash flood which would be hard to warn about. Sometimes those walls of water just come down streams and rivers quickly so there would be no warning. It's tragic and I know those families are in a horrible situation right now. I really feel for them. It's hard...

    Could You?

LOL-Outdoors, you're right, you can never have too much toilet paper. We have everything stockpiled at our place and a way to defend it also. I don't think we can be TOO prepared for anything like this. I have a lot of food stockpiled but it is in cans, so it would be hard to transport if...

    Dry rub vs. sauce

I love to take meats with me that are sitting in the marinade while we get to the campsite. By the time we usually make it they are just right after we get set up and get a fire going. As far as barbecue, my bunch likes both. it just depends upon what we want for that day. I usually do...

    Arkansas Flood Hits Popular Campground

A flood hit a popular campground in Arkansas the 12th early in the morning. It pretty much wiped out the campground and they are still looking for survivors at this point. They also are having trouble with phone and cell phone service so they are still trying to find everyone. The people in...

Half want tents, half want cabins

I say toss for it. You're not going to please everyone no matter what you do. There will have to be a middle ground but you know that no one will be completely happy no matter what.

What are your favorite lightweight backpacking foods?

Dried fruit is always a favorite of mine. I could eat dried pineapple forever if I had to. I also like coconut and banana chips. But just about any dried fruit and nut mixture I like. I also carry M & Ms for the quick sugar boost if I'm on a longer hike.

    Hiwassee river veggies

I've found that too peanut but the recipe does sound appealing. My wife and I make a beef roast at home in the crock pot that uses one or two packets of onion soup mix along with veggies and water, and we have to be careful about salt in it. When the water boils out of it to a certain point...

    Courses of Self Taught?

Well, during an emergency last night (a neighbor's house caught on fire), I learned I can no longer run. I can walk all day but I don't appreciate the fact that time has decided to rob me of a valuable skill. I am determined this summer to try to get that skill back again. As for survival...

I am absolutely thrilled these games are being held in the US this year. This is the first time EVER these games will be held here. They will be held in Lexington, Ky September 25 - October 10, 2010. This is a worldwide event and is an amazing honor for the United States to have. I want to...
