    Too old to learn?

Fifty five is young ! If she wants to learn to swim then encourage her, if she doesn't then leave her be and provide her with a safety vest if she wants to paddle in deeper water, go on boats etc.

    Living off the Land

It's about time that I educate myself about what wild food I can safely eat. I see so many mushrooms and berries that are tempting. Then I wonder why the animals haven't eaten them - so I leave them well alone.

    Using Local Produce When Camping

Camping should be a "green" activity – but the packaged, dried and tinned food plus their cooking equipment is not very green. In 2011 I'm going to buy more locally produced food and generally support local business more. It seems like the right thing to do - but will it help climate...

    Tent color.

I've never even considered this question and you've made me think. My tents have always been green or brown - as they came once I selected the model I wanted. Unnecessary gear?

I try to be minimalist - safety items before spare underwear. So I'll pack a loud whistle and a "space" blanket but have never used them. Other than that I use everything that I pack, part of the challenge and fun is keeping the weight under 20 pounds.

    My Canine Hiking Companion

No I don't - but I'd like to. My domestic arrangements and business life don't leave much room for a dog. But if I had one I'd have a Spanish Water Dog.

I want to have a go at night fishing and could do with some advice about headlamps - models, battery life, quality of light etc. Does anybody have any recommendations ?

    Going tentless -- Hammock Camping

I've never heard of "hammock camping" before but I have to say that it appeals to me. It has to be more lightweight than regular tent camping. Ideal for a one-night trip. I'd also be interested in advice re: gear.
